And the streaming service’s latest, There’s Someone Inside Your House, is similarly indebted to films like Black Christmas, Haze, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, which it explicitly references. There is one creepy conceit in There’s Someone Inside Your House, but that one genuinely spooky detail can’t counter the overall familiarity.

So that show was brilliant, and the writers were so smart. But we actually had the fire going, and we did film at a corn maze. So we had controlled fire for that end scene where all of us pull up and we’re trying to figure out a game plan. And people are killed in ways fitting their individual hangups like in A Nightmare on Elm Street. It wants very much to be all the things, but in that effort it loses any semblance of a satisfying story. Number one, she had a summer fling with the town’s resident bad boy weirdo, Ollie (Théodore Pellerin), whom everyone suspects to be the killer. We don’t know exactly what happened to cause Makani to change her name and transfer schools, but it is something bad enough that Makani fears she’s next on the killer’s list. But her friends have their own baggage—like her friend Zach (Dale Whibley), the son of a wealthy farm owner. Everyone hates Zach’s dad, the owner of Sanford Farms, for squeezing out the businesses in town.
Storyline
They arrive to find the cornfield maze up in flames, and Makani and Ollie run to confront the killer right before he kills their friend Zach's (Dale Whibley) father. The killer then takes off their mask and reveals himself to be Zach all along. Apparently he was fed up with being made to feel guilty for being a privileged white man, and is also sick of people hiding their truest selves. The next day, Zach's rich father, Skipper, holds a corn maze next to the school. Darby messages Makani that Ollie has been released by his brother just as his car pulls up to the school parking lot. Makani runs inside to avoid him, and she bumps into Caleb, who is then stabbed by the killer for trying to hide his homosexuality.

Makani is brought to the hospital to recover, and we finally learn her horrible secret — which also happens to be the reason why she moved from her home in Hawaii to start over. Part of the killer's modus operandi is revealing their victim's secrets before they're killed. For example, one of the victims is a violent homophobe, and another is a secret white supremacist. With this in mind, it makes sense for viewers to assume the perpetrator is seeking revenge from people who'd hurt them in the past. Jackson’s small town is Osborne, Kansas, where the locals enjoy the local high school’s football games with the same generic passion that they have for the town’s annual Halloween corn maze. Most of Osborne attends the game that Jackson should be playing in when he’s punished (to death) for a hazing ritual gone awry.
