Or walk in the footsteps of celebrated artists that called these regions home — like Picasso and Dali — and allow their work to spark your creativity. I booked a 100-minute hot stone massage and Rick chose a traditional 100-minute Swedish massage treatment. We were on the Explorer of the Seas for this cruise and you could tell the ship was older but it was still well-maintained. It had all the same amenities and dining and bars we expected to find, such as the theater, lounges, casino, pool deck, and dining. We did have like 30 minutes to explore on our own and I really wish we had had more time to really appreciate the historic landmarks, read all the signs, and just enjoy our time there. I will say the pictures of the tour were a bit misleading as it said we’d get views above the city, which we did not, but whatever.

For what we paid, we might as well have booked the simple Oia tour and saved money. I’m still glad we got to visit Oia as it’s cute, but honestly, Rick and I snapped a few pictures and then went to a wine bar to escape the crowds. This was a pretty good tour as we were picked up right from the ship and then took a bus tour of Athens before heading to the Acropolis.
Romance and culture await on a Greek Island cruise
It's also wise to bring along a light jacket even if you're traveling during the summer months as any wind blowing might make you chilly. Cooking classes are often part of the onboard activities, offering passengers the chance to learn how to prepare traditional dishes under the guidance of expert chefs. Whether it’s mastering the art of Greek moussaka or learning the secrets of Croatian risotto, these classes provide a hands-on experience that's both fun and enriching. Bright blue skies, sand-fringed shores, and a bustling street art scene — few places are as colorful as this ever-evolving city. From captivating coasts to laid-back island vibes, the exclusively adult cruise vacation of your dreams is here. Waves of invasions and settlers have shaped Croatia’s impressive architecture, which bears influences from Roman, Venetian and Ottoman eras.
Adriatic Sea & Greek Gems
The old city of Dubrovnik, also known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its stunning architecture and fortified walls tell tales of resilience and beauty. Split, home to the Diocletian’s Palace, another UNESCO World Heritage site, offers an incredible journey back in time to Roman days. Walking through its ancient corridors and plazas brings history to life in the most vivid way possible. Travelers can wander through Oia's narrow streets, explore ancient Thira, or simply enjoy a glass of local Assyrtiko wine while overlooking the caldera.
What is the best time to cruise to Croatia?
Step back in time on a tour through ancient ruins on a Mediterranean cruise with Princess. Imagine life as a gladiator at the Colosseum, explore Greek mythology at the Parthenon and discover the archeological excavations of Pompeii — a lost city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Cruise the most incredible spots in the Adriatic Sea — by way of Croatia’s coastline, Greece’s glamorous islands, and a bay in the Balkans.
More casual players can pull up a seat at the slot machines for the same adrenaline at their own speed. For an afternoon full of games, join fellow travelers for Bingo, or compete in scheduled group tournaments. With mouthwatering entrees and confections, the Mediterranean invites you to embark on a gourmet tour through iconic cities. From breakfast to dinner and every delectable dessert in between, the best is before you with Princess. As the largest port in the Mediterranean, Marseille is the gateway to opportunity.
We booked several shore excursions during our cruise but did leave our last stop open just for wandering and enjoying the port city. We booked our excursions through Royal Caribbean, but many were operated by third-party vendors. Beyond the Roman ruins and iconic medieval streets, Croatia's second-largest city is one of the Adriatic's most energetic ports and can't-miss ports. She hails from the sun-kissed regions of South Florida, residing within a stone’s throw of the bustling Fort Lauderdale and Miami cruise ports. As a native Floridian, Judith’s love for the ocean and cruising extends as far back as her memory can recall. In Greece, passengers have the unique opportunity to visit iconic landmarks such as the Acropolis of Athens, a symbol of classical spirit and civilization.
Classic Italy Cruisetour
Look forward to more stunning sea views along with fascinating attractions like a large portico, agora and a theater that dates back to the 2nd-century. This exciting day begins by walking back in time to ancient Greece, widely considered to be the birthplace of western civilization. From there, you’ll catch a flight to the bucket-list island of Santorini, welcomed by your driver at Santorini Airport, who will bring you to your 4-star hotel.

Her lifelong passion for travel has taken her to countless destinations around the globe, but cruising, undeniably, holds a special place in her heart. Judith has embraced the elegance of luxury liners, relished the intimacy of boutique ships, and marveled at the innovation found on the newest megaships. This varied experience makes her a well-rounded and knowledgeable commentator on everything cruise-related. Travelers on Greece and Croatia cruise itineraries are in for a culinary treat as much as they are for scenic views.
Stand in awe at the base of Mount Olympus, Greece’s highest mountain and the fabled home of the Greek gods. In Zakynthos, don’t miss a visit to the awe-inspiring Shipwreck Beach, which often tops best-of lists. Experience the thrill of cards, dice, roulette and blackjack at the casino onboard our European cruises. Learn from experts — like our staff or perhaps other guests nearby — and put your skills to the test.
Along with ports of call in the country’s best destinations, our cruises to Greece also include stops in Turkey, Italy, Malta, and beyond. You’ll depart from Rome, Athens, or Barcelona, making it easy to extend your vacation in one of these stunning cities before or after your cruise. Kotor is enrobed in ancient houses, palaces and churches that speak to its 12th-century origins. On a Greek cruise, dine on Montenegrin cuisine in the home of a local chef, appreciate 14th-century Venetian art at St. Tryphon’s Cathedral and taste regional wines along the riviera. On a Mediterranean cruise with Princess®, explore the homes of Greek gods, Italian artists and multicultural treasures. Uncover divine legends at the Acropolis, admire religious relics at Dubrovnik’s Cathedral or climb the Leaning Tower of Pisa and soak up sweeping views of the emerald landscapes.
We really love the audience participation games, like Battle of the Sexes, The Newlywed Game, and so on as every single show is different. I’d seen a few online reviews that said the entertainment wasn’t good on this ship but I would disagree. We enjoyed the entertainment on the show and felt the cruise directors and entertainers were engaging. We checked out the ice skating show, battle of the sexes, trivia nights, the comedians, the dancing shows, live music, and so much more. We still visited the Diamond Lounge in the evening as it offered a great and quiet place to relax, have a glass of prosecco, and watch the sunset. We also made sure to bring our own wine on board as you’re allowed to bring one bottle of wine per person on the ship.
We’ve taken care of all the details — so all you have to do is kick back and have the relaxing vacation you deserve. Pre-upload your travel docs to the Virgin Voyages app, get Ready to Sail before leaving home, and make boarding a (sea)breeze in just a few minutes.
